nail biterPineiro's 44-yarder ends a turnover-soaked 32-29 classic in Seattle
San Francisco beat Seattle 32-29 in a game with so many turnovers the officials should have handed out participation ribbons. Eddy Pineiro's 44-yard field goal with 1:56 left was the difference, capping a fourth quarter that featured a go-ahead touchdown, a two-point conversion, and both teams desperately trying to give the game away.
The wildest play came at the end of the first half: Seattle's George Holani fumbled at the goal line — minus-6.94 EPA, minus-0.301 win probability — and San Francisco's Gracen Halton fell on it in the end zone for a touchdown. Sam Darnold threw two interceptions, Renardo Green catching both, and Jason Myers answered with five field goals, because someone in Seattle had to score responsibly.
Brock Purdy threw two touchdowns but also an interception, and watched Deebo Samuel fumble one away; neither team finished above minus-9 EPA, which tells you everything about the aesthetics. But the 49ers made the last kick, and in a game this sloppy, competence is just showing up last.
