nail biterAllen's 57-yard OT strike sets up Bass's winner in a 37-34 shootout
Buffalo and Los Angeles traded haymakers for 60 minutes, and the Bills needed overtime to win 37-34. Josh Allen's 57-yard strike to Khalil Shakir early in the extra period — plus-0.234 win probability — set up Tyler Bass's 45-yard game-winner, the only kick that mattered in a game full of them.
Allen was the best player on the field: 210 passing yards, 121 rushing yards, two total touchdowns, and a 12.1-yard rushing average that suggests the Rams' defense was tackling a rumor. James Cook added 111 rushing yards and two scores of his own.
Matthew Stafford was nearly as good — 40-of-54 for 383 yards and three touchdowns, with Puka Nacua catching 17 balls for 138 yards. But Harrison Mevis missed both of his field-goal attempts, and in a three-point overtime loss, that's the whole autopsy. The Rams gained 14.9 EPA and lost; the Bills gained 20.9 and survived. Sometimes the better team wins, and sometimes the other kicker just makes his kicks.
