nail biterSzmyt drills a 56-yarder with 10 seconds left to bury the comeback
Aaron Rodgers did everything the Steelers paid him to do. Down 21-10 at halftime in Cleveland, he engineered 14 fourth-quarter points — a 3-yard touchdown to Pat Freiermuth, then his own two-point conversion plunge — to tie the game at 24 with 1:42 left. The comeback was complete. The legend had delivered. All that remained was the kickoff.
Ninety-two seconds later, Andre Szmyt drilled a 56-yarder to win it 27-24, and Rodgers' masterpiece became a footnote. That's the cruelty of a perfect comeback: it only counts if the other team doesn't get the ball back. The Steelers left 102 seconds on the clock, and the Browns used 92 of them — plus a kicker with ice in his veins and 56 yards of leg.
Cleveland's defense built the lead with a 21-point second quarter, Pittsburgh's quarterback nearly stole it with a fourth quarter for the ages, and the whole thing was decided by a specialist. Somewhere there's a lesson about situational football. The Steelers just paid full tuition to learn it.
